If one of my units dies in battle, is he permanently dead and the card is useless now? Or does he get back to life eventually?

As far as I've seen, once a unit dies, it returns to being a card and recharges. At least, that's what my unit's description imply, and by imply, I mean say.)

It's a card game, why would it be permanently dead? Unless you're doing it like Pokemon on hard mode.
But in all seriousness, no offense, but it's.....more common sense than you'd think.
